Early in his career, he wrote some interesting shorts: on this subject, you might like “all you zombies”
That’s a harsh word, but I’ll just opine that his middle period (bookended by Stranger in a Strange Land (1961) and Time Enough For Love (1973) encompasses his best stuff. Those two named novels are my favorites of all his work.

Mine as well. Dreck is like Number of the Beast, where they can dial a number on their ship and pop into alternate universes, some of which are familiar to SciFi fans, and one was even his Laz Long universe.
