There have been quite a few pedestrian deaths in the LA area and some very loud mouthed folks have been suggesting the only solution is self-driving cars.

I don’t really think you can have self-driving cars unless you build above ground freeways that don’t cross any city streets and that only allow driverless cars.

Ya can have them if you embed wires (or sich - paint) whatever in the road - only way
I hope the family of the victim sues Uber up one side and down the other.
