Yeah, see #4 and #5 in my Memorial Day thread.
Estate (Summer, in Italian) …composed in 1960 by Bruno Martino (music) and Bruno Brighetti (lyrics). A minor hit in Italy when released, it eventually became a worldwide jazz standard largely through its interpretation by João Gilberto.
Charlie Haden – that Atlas of Emotion – wrote this for his wife Ruth when he was courting her back in the eighties. Charlie passed three years ago, but will always be a giant of the instrument.
Ry, with the LEGENDARY Earl Hines. So delicate, so tasty.
So I was listening to various pieces in this thread, and then my page somehow reset itself and I got three all playing at the same time… the above Ry Cooder piece, the Utah piece a few back that BD6 said Sweet Voice That, and a 7-tone fart symphony
All at the same time
It was really something
You’re lucky, cool stuff like never happens to me.
Happened again, but this time I had only started a Sade song, so it restarted on me by its lonesome.

Ever since the Twenties, this is what I think a twelve-string guitar is really FOR. Thanks to Willie McTell and Huddie Ledbetter.
Slaid Cleaves does Woody Guthrie and hits it out of the park.
Happy birthday, Slaid (1964.)

This morning I was born again and a light shines on my land
I no longer look for heaven in your deathly distant land
I do not want your pearly gates don’t want your streets of gold
This morning I was born again and a light shines on my soul
This morning I was born again, I was born again complete
I stood up above my troubles and I stand on my two feet
My hand it feels unlimited, my body feels like the sky
I feel at home in the universe where yonder planets fly
This morning I was born again, my past is dead and gone
This great eternal moment is my great eternal dawn
Each drop of blood within me, each breath of life I breathe
Is united with these mountains and the mountains with the seas.
I feel the sun upon me, its rays crawl through my skin
I breathe the life of Jesus and old John Henry in
I give myself, my heart, my soul to give some friend a hand
This morning I was born again, I am in the promised land
This morning I was born again and a light shines on my land
I no longer look for heaven in your deathly distant land
I do not want your pearly gates don’t want your streets of gold
And I do not want your mansion for my heart is never cold.
~~ Woody Guthrie
I stole a lot of licks from Pete Anderson the guitar player here… if I were ever going to play country again it would sound something like this…
My “Like” was for Pete, not Dwight. Just to be clear.
I like Dwight, once or twice per annum
I hadn’t listened to any of his newer stuff, I watched some of this and he sounds good but no tele hot licks wtf… and the band is a little too laid back for my taste and needs a real bass player… Maybe he just had it with country music.
Well, for Tele Hot Licks no one has really caught my attention in a long time. First two guys I think of are Albert Lee and Ray Flacke. Here’s Ray.
