The Cassini space probe crashes into Saturn at 4:55am Friday

19 years and 11 months after it launched. I worked on a small part of it on the media and web end on a support team (We had our own special room with special keys n everything) at U Michigan’s Space Science Department before it did launch and the bulk of it was still being worked on at JPL in Callie. I’ve followed it as it’s given us so many incredible images of Saturn and the rings. C’est la vie to Dr Hunter Waite’s baby.

Cassini has given us a TON of amazing stuff. I’ll miss it.

It’s amazing that the guy who dressed Stars like Princess Grace and Jackie Kennedy also was into astronomy?

LOL, you said “probe”

Isn’t it supposed to ignite Saturn and turn it back into our second sun?

That was Jupiter, didn’t you see 2010, unless you read the book, in which case 2001 (the Space Odyssey) actually took place around Saturn and then 2010 should have been also but when he wrote 2010 he changed it in the book to Jupiter, to match the movie in case they made 2010 into a movie which they did obviously and did you read 2061 the third one, it sucked and I hope they don’t try to make that into a movie, but interestingly enough the new Sun from 2010 is called Lucifer in 2061, by the way Roy Scheider’s character is over 100 years old in it and the year 2061 is the next pass of Halley’s comet and that’s where that book is set, unless he also changes it to Jupiter The Second Sun which would make no sense whatsoever, also he wrote a 3001 which is really weird and the epilogue in 2010 which takes place in 20001 could not of happened because of what was written in 3001 and other inconsistencies but Arthur C Clarke said all these novels are in their own universes and he doesn’t have to make them agree so fuck you, also I just read on wikipedia that Yahoo and Tom Hanks are talking about making 2061 and 3001 and I bet they suck even with Tom Hanks in them, even tho Kubrick and the estate of Clarke are okay with them being made.

I think that’s amazing that something you had a part of is now going to become a part of Saturn.

That’s heavy.

Is it really dying? Maybe it could be gravitational slung on a new mission. Voyager 1 and 2 still continue to make scientific discoveries.

That Eclipse a couple weeks ago? it was fake.

No it wasn’t, I saw pictures on the Internet!

I heard it was the last thing Kubrick filmed before he died.

A vid made from images as Cassini passed Jupiter on its way to Saturn.

So even tho the ice moon is farther away from Jupiter than the fire moon, and therefore would move slower, it appears to overtake the fire moon because of Cassini’s motion in the other direction. Description an shit is here:

There is a show called ‘How The Universe Works-Cassini’s Final Secrets’ that will be shown on 6/19/2023 at 8:00 am est on the science channel.

’For twenty years, NASA’s Cassini spacecraft revealed the strange secrets of Saturn until it vaporized in its atmosphere in a blaze of glory, but today its legacy lives on…’.

I saw this episode before, still enjoyable.
