Garden Update 08-18-2014 - Heirloom Tomatoes

I still have much to learn about the sugar aspects of processed food. Most of the canned vegetables list sugar as a separate ingredient. That doesn’t mean that the vegetable isn’t naturally sweet, it only means that sugar has been added. They seem to add it to pretty much everything. Even a 16 oz bottle of peanut butter has about 45 grams of sugar added to it.

Interesting:

A medium tomato:

1/4 Hunt’s stewed tomato can. That’s 160 calories per can:

I don’t doubt that they’re adding sugar etc to them. But one tomato is quite different than cooked down tomatoes. I cooked a large half pot of tomatoes down last night and it wasn’t a lot of sauce. A lot of tomatoes go into making a can of sauce so I think you’d get most of the sugars and calories from each one.

I like Salt and Mayo on my sliced tomatoes. lol
