The renamed Baseball Records thread (was ChiSox set a new record)

The Chicago White Sox have set a new MLB record for the modern wildcard era… it is August 18 and they are mathematically eliminated from the playoffs.

The previous record was August 20, 2019. When there were only 2 wildcards per league. Now there are 3 so it should be EASIER to get a postseason slot. This is why the new record is SOOOOOOO much more significant.

Dongley, you’re a Cubs fan right?

Yup. Warms my heart to see the Sox faceplant, especially as dismal as the Cubbies are this year.

One of the nice things, this year, is that even if the Yankees don’t win is that I get to watch Arron Judge possibly hit another home run.

Aaron Judge homers (46) on a fly ball to right center field. Juan Soto scores.

Speaking of awesome, it’s Aug 21 and Shohei Ohtani is at 39 HR and 39 stolen bases. Only 6 in MLB history are in the 40-40 club, and none entered it before September 16.

The Dodgers aren’t having him pitch and he’s learned how to steal bases like a BAWSS

(edited to give the actual date in Sept of the prior record)

Since my last post Judge has hit two more homers. He is leaving Shohei Ohtani in his dust.

In the one category, yeah. Judge is too good…

Mark it. Shohei joins the 40-40 club on August 23 with a steal early…

… and a walkoff slam with 2 out, on the First. Fucking. Pitch.

Oh yeah…

Danny Jansen was batting for the Blue Jays against the BoSox on June 26 this year when the game was suspended by rain. They will resume the game Monday Aug 26. But Jansen was traded to the BoSox in the interim and will in fact be playing when the game is resumed, making him the first player to play for BOTH TEAMS in a single game in MLB history.

Oh another Ohtani nugget: For the Angels he was also pitching, leading the MLB in various pitching categories as well as batting, which is rare that a batter can pitch and vice versa (think Babe Ruth).

So he had elbow surgery and so isn’t pitching this year, so hell, why not join an elite batting/stealing club of 5 historical members and make it 6?

lololol

Keep in mind that Ohtani has had about 50 more chances at bat than Judge; they are so afraid of Judge that they keep walking him.

Judge also has more strikeouts than Ohtani.

Nobodies perfect.

This guys record will stand forever.

He is also in a slump. He hasn’t hit a home run in 5 games. :astonished:
