The House Speaker vote

The voting is today for the new Speaker of the House. With the GQP majority, Kevin McCarthy is begging hard for the votes.

As a troll, the Dems put up Hakeem Jeffries, who so far has garnered the most votes in each vote, but not enough to get the job as a simply majority is required (which he will doubtless not get).

Vote 1:
Jeffries: 212
McCarthy: 203
Andy Biggs: 10
Gym Jordan: 6
Jim Banks, former Rep. Lee Zeldin, and Rep. Byron Donalds: 1 each

Vote 2:
Jeffries: 212
McCarthy: 203
Gym Jordan: 19

The circus is quite popcorn-worthy I’m told. The GQP is in seeming disarray as the horse-trading is getting McCarthy nowhere.

And without a Speaker, the House is unable to operate.

Note: the House has not needed a second vote in 100 years… in 1923 it took SIX votes to get 'er done.

I’m loving the shit show.

F’ing assholes made their beds…

Vote #3:

212 Jeffries
202 McCarthy
20 Jordan

So McC lost one.

They’ve adjourned for the day. Again, without a Speaker, you can’t swear in the next Congress so it can’t begin session.

Republicans say that government doesn’t work. They get themselves elected to prove it.

Jordan says he would back McCarthy, so stop voting for me. So, round 4:

Jeffries: 212
McCarthy: 201
Byron Donalds: 20
Present: 1

(update: round 5, same result)
(update 2: round 6, same result)

Vote #7:

Jeffries: 212
McCarthy: 201
Byron Donalds: 20
Donald Trump: 1
Present: 1

Which reminds us that the SOTH doesn’t have to be a House member, and there was a movement to have The Count of Mostly Crisco to be SOTH, making him 2nd in line, and then impeach Biden and Harris, moving TFG back into the big chair.

The sole change from all 3 of yesterday’s votes was that one vote from Matt Gaetz, whose lips are firmly planted on that giant orange patootie.

(Updates:)
Vote #8, 2 for Donalds switched to Kevin Hern
Vote #9, Gaetz left DJT for Hern, so no speakership for tinyhands

Vote #10 now complete, first time 9 wasn’t enough since before the Civil war (1859 took 44 rounds)
Jeffries 212, McCarthy 200, Donalds 13, Hern 7, “present” 1

Four Republicans are leaving town, reducing the magic number to 216.

The plot thickens.

#11 same as #10 except one for Donalds went back to “The” Donald. After this, McCarthy’s PAC steered a bunch of money to the most of the 20 or so Repubs opposing him. :moneybag: :money_with_wings:

Adjourned for more of this shitshow tomorrow.

They’re getting there… 13 have switched to McCarthy, he was within 3 of the 216 out of 431 needed in this morning’s round #12

Maybe Rino Kevin will break through on the lucky 13th vote.

Got one more in the 13th. Still short tho
